Dr. Tashakkori's - CS1440 Class Activities

Sept. 13
Discussed while loop and do while loop . Their differences and similarities.
Syntax for while loop
while(An expression that is either True or False)
{
  First to do as long as answer is True
  Second to do as long as answer is True
  ...
  ...
}
// Execute from here on, once expression is False
...
...

Syntax for do while loop
do
{
  First to do as long as answer is True
  Second to do as long as answer is True
  ...
  ...
} while(An expression that is either True or False);
// Execute from here on, once expression is False
...
...

We also talked about number of decimal points that appear on the screen for values with decimal points. The key is to include the magic formula: (all three lines whenever you wish to change the number of decimals)
cout.setf(ios::fixed);
cout.setf(ios::showpoint);
cout.precision(2);

This will display the numbers that come after with 2 decimal point.

Sept. 11
A moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Completed the implementation of the quadratic program based on the flowchart that was given in class. Line-by-line translation of the diagram to C++
Discussed if and if ... else

Sept. 9
Discussed different types of variables (int, long, float, double, char, and bool ). We mentioned that all variable used in a C++ program must be declared first.
We developed the algorithm and then wrote the program given on Display 2.1.

Sept. 6
Quiz (1) was given and was solved in class. We discussed the program on Display 1.8.

Sept. 4
We talked about the layout a simple C++ program. We talked about different phases of software design.

Sept. 2
Labor Day Holiday.

Aug. 30
Chapter (1) - We talked about importance of problem solving. Discussed the compilation and run phases of a program. We talked about different types of errors. You are to learn how to solve quadratic equations (Ax^2 + Bx + c = 0).
