In May 2004, the Department of
Computer Science at Appalachian State University in collaboration with
seven additional UNC institutions received seed grants from the UNC
Office of the President totaling ~650,000 for two years to start the
development of advanced research and education applications in
high-performance computing. The mission was to provide
undergraduate students at comprehensive universities with an
opportunity to study computational sciences and high-performance
computing at a level comparable to students at Research I universities,
to promote faculty research involving undergraduates, and to promote
grid computing methodologies throughout North Carolina. This
workshop is one of the last activities we plan for the final phase of
the project.
We will provide dinner on Friday April 13 for all participants. Also, we will
provide financial support for travel, food on Saturday April 14, and $200 stipend to
those students who have participated in the Fall and Winter 2006 workshops
and will attend this workshop to present their research. We would like to
invite faculty mentors to participate with their students. These students
are expected to present their research in a 10-15 minute talk in the afternoon of Saturday from 2:00
pm. Additional stipends will be awarded for the top three research presentations.
