In May 2004, the Department of
Computer Science at Appalachian State University in collaboration with
seven additional UNC institutions received seed grants from the UNC
Office of the President totaling ~650,000 for two years to start the
development of advanced research and education applications in
high-performance computing. The mission was to provide
undergraduate students at comprehensive universities with an
opportunity to study computational sciences and high-performance
computing at a level comparable to students at Research I universities,
to promote faculty research involving undergraduates, and to promote
grid computing methodologies throughout North Carolina. This
workshop is one of the last activities we plan for the final phase of
the project.
We will provide financial support for
travel, motel for Friday November 3, meals, and $150 stipend to
participating students and faculty mentors who attend with their
students. This support is available for faculty from higher education
who want to sponsor student research in distributed computing; faculty
may accompany students from their institutions in North Carolina.
