So says Moshe Vardi in a recent report to the Stanford Computer Forum. Vardi headed an ACM task force investigating jobs migration issues. Selected quotations from the Stanford web article include:
A Nov 5, 2006 article from an India news service says that the high demand created by U.S. jobs offshoring is causing some Indian firms to export back those very same jobs. Some Indian companies are even building facilities in the U.S.!
Bill Gates spoke recently in Russia telling students there that
because of the shortage of IT graduates in the U.S. that there was a
market for foreign IT professionals. Here's Yahoo's link to the Reuter's
article.
But what that tells ME is that U.S. students ALSO can fill
that market!! KEEP STUDYING COMPUTER SCIENCE!
In a recent address to IT students at the ACM programming contest, Joe Chase, acting Dean of the College of Information Science and Technology at Radford University in Virginia said, "There are lots of jobs and employers out there and THEY WANT YOU. With the pipeline of IT graduates behind you shrinking, you are even MORE VALUABLE to these companies."
